Release Vietnamese Blogger Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh

Concerns about detention conditions

22.12.2016

The SPD parliamentary group in the German Bundestag demands the immediate and unconditional release of Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh. She is in custody since October 2016 charged with the crime of propaganda against the Socialist State of Vietnam.

“I am extremely concerned about the detention conditions of the blogger Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh. She did not obtain visiting rights for her two underage children and other family members. Authorities denied her legal assistance. Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh did not commit a crime, but exercised her right to freedom of speech" says Frank Schwabe, spokes person for human rights of the group. "I demand the immediate release of Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh".

Foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the commissioner for human rights Bärbel Kofler support the blogger as well. Furthermore, Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh is accepted in the programme “Parliamentarians protect Parliamentarians”. Parliamentarians of the German Bundestag stand up and support vulnerable parliamentarians in danger, politicians and human rights defenders.
